Larry the Laser

In March of 2007, a public appeal was launched to raise funds for the Newborn Intensive Care Foundation (NICF) to purchase a desperately needed eye laser.

With the very generous support of MIX 106.3 and the Canberra Community, these funds were raised.

Larry the Laser will be used to perform eye surgery to prevent permanent damage to premature infants born with a condition called Retinopathy.  If left untreated retinopathy can result in retinal detachment and even blindness.

Previously the ACT has had to send our delicate newborns that required use of the laser to Sydney for this special eye surgery.  Travel is often very traumatic and upsetting for families, not to mention the risks involved with transporting premature babies for surgery.  Community CPS staff found the situation incredibly disappointing and something we wanted to be involved in having remedied as quickly as possible.

SCOUTS ADELAIDE GANG SHOW

The Adelaide Gang Show is the performing arts section of the Scout Association with participation open also to Girl Guides.

The Gang Show is Adelaide’s premiere youth theatre organisation run by the Scout Association (and Girl Guides) with a history spanning back to 1961. This production has provided an opportunity to thousands of young South Australians to be immersed in a full scale variety show performed in a professional theatre. The Scouts and Girl Guides are given the opportunity to develop the theatrical skills not only as actors, singers, dancers, and musicians, but also the important jobs that happen backstage like choreography, sound, lighting, costume design, and administration.

Much like the Scouts, Community CPS Australia is extremely proud to support this tremendous opportunity for our young people to be involved in the Adelaide Gang Show. We believe it’s important to empowering future generations and an important part of that process is to ensure opportunities such as the Adelaide Gang Show thrive.
