If You Are Going Overseas
It is recommended that you always take more than one payment mechanism – some local cash, a Cash Passport Card, and a credit or debit card. That way, if you have difficulty with any of your products (eg your credit card is not accepted, or the magnetic stripe gets damaged), you will have an alternative. Use a Cash Passport Card for your day-to-day expenses, and a credit or debit card for major purchases.
As a basic rule of thumb, if your destination has a good ATM network, take most of your travel funds on a Cash Passport Card; if not, travellers cheques are better. Cash Passport is ideal for most tourist destinations, inc UK and Europe, USA, Canada, South East Asia, Japan, New Zealand, Australia and South Africa.
Get your foreign exchange before you leave home – exchange rates at home are usually better than overseas.
Cash Passport Card
The Cash Passport Card is a pre-paid, PIN-protected card that enables you to obtain local cash from over 1 million VISA ATM’s around the world. You can purchase the card in any amount from $250 to $25,000.
Cash Passport is ideal for all major tourist destinations, overseas and in Australia, where there is an ATM network.
- Convenience
Anyone can buy a Cash Passport card – you do not have to be over 18 or have a credit rating. It can also be bought as a gift. For added convenience, cards are reloadable, so you can top them up with additional funds when required.
- Security
Travelex supplies a second card (with a separate PIN), free of charge – if you lose one, simply start using the second. Lost or stolen cards can be replaced, free of charge and usually within 24 hours. No value is kept on the card (all funds are retained on Visa’s host system). If a card is lost or stolen, it is useless to the thief provided the PIN remains secret.
- Fees & Exchange Rates
You normally pay only $3.75 per withdrawal (other fees may apply). Exchange rates are converted at the time of the transaction; or, if you prefer to "lock-in" a rate, cards can be purchased in US and New Zealand Dollars, Euros and British Pounds.
- Budgeting
As Cash Passport is pre-paid, there is no danger of overspending. Unused funds can be reclaimed upon returning home (fees may apply).
- 24 Hour Assistance
Customer support is available 24 hours a day to deal with lost cards, forgotten PIN’s, card balances etc.
Foreign Cash
In addition to your travellers cheques and/or Cash Passport Card, it is always advisable to carry some local cash to cover taxis, trips etc upon arrival overseas.
Holiday Money regularly stocks over 35 foreign currencies.

If You Are Sending Money Overseas
Drafts are the cheapest form of sending money overseas, and can be sent by mail. The receiver generally has to pay the draft into an account, and it may take a few days to clear.
Telegraphic transfers are electronic funds transfers to financial institutions overseas.
Community CPS processes all telegraphic transfers through Travelex the world’s largest foreign exchange specialist.
You can arrange a telegraphic transfer at your nearest Community CPS Personal Financial Centre, by phoning the Member Contact Centre on 13 25 85 (+ 61 8 8205 8888 for overseas callers) with your Membership Number and telephone passcode or by sending us a secure email via Internet Banking.
If a visit or phone call is not possible, you can send a signed fax with your details and the transfer details to the Member Contact Centre on 08 8205 8750 (+ 61 8 8231 3060 for overseas members).
Telegraphic transfers sent in foreign currency cost $25 (if it is being sent in Australian Dollars then the cost is $55) and the funds will reach the destination account in approximately 4 to 5 business days. For the transfer we will need the following details:
• Bank sort code/SWIFT address/chips/routing number
• Bank name
• Full bank address (full street address is mandatory)
• Beneficiary account
• Beneficiary name
• Beneficiary address (full street address is mandatory)
• Any special instructions
If the transfer is being sent to the United Kingdom or European Union, or you would like to transfer the funds in Great British Pounds or Euros, you will also need to include the IBAN number. Please put the IBAN number in the Beneficiary Account Number field.
All telegraphic transfers of AUD10,000 and above require a signature authorisation from the sender which can be faxed to us.
Community CPS staff may contact you to confirm the request or if we are unable to perform the telegraphic transfer as requested. This may be because we do not have all the necessary information or that the destination country or currency are not available for this type of transaction.
Once we have completed the telegraphic transfer we will post you a copy of the order confirmation and the terms and conditions for telegraphic transfers which you can take a look at here.
The overseas financial institution may charge a fee to credit the destination account with these funds. Community CPS and Travelex have no control of any such charge.
If You Receive Money From Overseas
Subject to acceptability*, Community CPS can arrange through our alliance with Travelex, to convert Foreign Currency items into Australian Dollars.
